The Youth Philanthropy Program
The Nevada Community Foundation's unique Youth Philanthropy Program encourages and promotes philanthropy among a select group of young adults. It provides an opportunity for young adults to explore and learn about charitable giving and community needs, and to develop their philanthropic values.
How It Works
- You enroll your child(ren), ages 11-18, by contacting the professional staff of the Nevada Community Foundation at 702.892.2326 before December 15.
- You provide a contribution of $2,500 to the Foundation on or before the first meeting of the program in January. (This amount does not increase for multiple children, however, a $250 administrative fee will be deducted from this amount per child you enroll. The remainder will be consolidated into the charitable pool the group will distribute.)
- Your total contribution qualifies for a tax deduction.
- The group will meet three separate times. The first meeting, in January, will serve as an introduction to philanthropy, and the group will decide what issue(s) they wish to focus on. The second meeting will be held in February, and will center around site visits to appropriate charities based on the group's interests. The third and final meeting will be held in March, when the group will make it's philanthropic choices. Following the distribution meeting, the Foundation staff will update group members on the effect of their gift(s).
- The Foundation staff will handle all administrative matters for this program, and will provide meeting space and food if necessary during the meetings. We ask that parents allow their children to participate in this program independently, although parents are encouraged to join the site visit meeting in February.
